My illustrations

As a professional illustrator I produce a wide variety of commissioned images. My medium is pen and ink with occassional use of watercolour pencil to add vibrancy. Commissions vary from card designs, ibook images and educational posters to company logos, adverts and personalised portraits.
Please feel happy to have a look through these examples of my work but please don't print or reproduce them without asking my permission first as they may be copyright protected by clients.

I have enjoyed illustrating a variety of things since I was a child and graduated with a BA(Hons) in Illustration at Falmouth College of Art in 2000. After university I worked for BBC Children's Acquisitions at Television Centre, gaining practical experience in trends and application of design. I worked with an eclectic mix of international production companies and design teams learning about the practical production and processes involved in animation. Over the years I have completed a number of professional commissions from various international publishers and organisations including Mantra Publishing, CBeebies and The Story Mouse.

I like to work commissions around time with my family and teaching various art and crafts to groups including adult with learning disabilities in my local area and festivals across the country. It's great to work on large commissions over a number of weeks and deadlines help me to prioritise my time to my favourite hobby, drawing and painting. I have worked on various commissions including educational friezes, lealfets, i-app books, logos, portraits and adverts.

I use mainly pen and ink for my illustrations as it works up very quickly and produces a fresh and vibrant image with a similar feel to illustrators such as Quentin Blake, David Melling and Janet Ahlberg. I also like to work in Gouache or pencil over inks on longer or more realistic images as it gives a bold and professional look to my pictures. As a mother I love looking through the many inspirations of children's books and enjoy spending the time with my daughters looking at the details of other illustrations.

Occasionally I enjoy producing my own artwork for sale and until recently, as a member of the Cumberland Arts Society had the opportunity to exhibit locally. Living near to the Lake District for a number of years my inspiration often comes from the landscape around me, the sheep on the fells and the fishermen at our local harbour. I also take on private commissions for portraits of family members or pets.
